'KICK'N SOME ART' is the most comprehensive attempt to document the breadth of Adam Knapper's artwork. Adam aims to challenge conventional ideas surrounding art and art made by people who have a lived experience of a mental health concern and their abilities. Through his art making he tries to educate, as well as to break down stereotypes and dispel myths in this area.
Adam is an exciting, independent artist / designer who came out of the graffiti-art movement of the eighties. His blend of modern art, and pop-culture with complex organic shapes make compelling works. Since the early 1990s, Adam has had four solo exhibitions and been in over 30 group shows.
Over the past 25 years, his creative journey has been inspired by people, places, events and ideas. Adam's rich visual language is drawn from his surroundings of Melbourne’s culture. Adam recently completed an artist in residency at St Vincent’s Hospital.
Adam has worked on several commissions for public, community and the private sectors. He produced many public murals and Street art, most notably for The Project Underground at Emerald House, South Melbourne. His artworks have been featured on T.V commercials, Pamphlet’s, Brochures, T-shirts, Skateboard decks and Christmas cards.
He has been the recipient of numerous awards including, first prize in the M.H.F poster competition 2015 and in Melbourne's Connected 10 exhibition in 2010. Adam received the People’s Choice Award in the Connected 09 show, which was held at the Victorian Arts Centre in 2009. His works are represented in a number of public and private collections, including St Vincent's hospital and the Cunningham Dax.
