Adam Knapper is a Melbourne based visual artist, illustrator and designer. Adam's artwork takes its cues and distinctive style from Street art, Pop art, typography,1960s psychedelic poster art, New York subway art, modern and contemporary art. In his youth, the magical dreamscapes of surrealism and fantasy art drew his interest. When viewing his artworks such as, illustrations, graphic designs, canvases, photographs, he asks his audience to be guided by their imagination in discovering the whimsical and often humourous motifs, patterns and messages. The meaning of chaos theory can be seen in his ribbons, raveling and unraveling. The meaning of chaos theory to Adam is the way you can observe the world and if you look closely enough, patterns form out of the chaos, Chaos theory is a belief that one action causes a reaction for example, the "butterfly effect". It points out, how a change as minor as a butterfly flapping its wings can lead to dramatic and unexpected consequences on the other side of the planet. Staying in the moment, being centred, grounded and spontaneous is where true magic of creativity happens. |
Adam eloquently says, "whilst you look, things can ravel or unravel". Adam attempts to communicate difficult concepts and ideas such as these aesthetically with pleasing design elements. Adam's perception of the world is demonstrated through the language of art: colour, form, pattern, line, and repetition. Certain ideas, themes and intentions recur from time to time throughout his artworks, as they are common experiences for most people. His art depicts, his take on the human condition and general life experience. Adam believes that art making is like documenting and a form of capturing a moment in time. Each piece in the pages following can tell its own tale, from a portrait of a loved one in 'ASHKIM', a comment on the state of the world's environment in 'METHANE' and a resting place for philosophical contemplation in 'PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE'. Adam does not tell you the full story, but invites you to interpret the symbols, forms and patterns according to your own physical and metaphysical experience. |
